1
Sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge your No. 6494/1900 of the 7th March
and beg to inform you that we have approachedthe Hongkong Government as to
renewal of Hongkong Ordinance (No: 17 of 1899) which expires on 31 July and
we hope that it may receive favourable consideration at your hands.
With regard to the 2nd paragraph, our Singapore Manager is making
every effort to withdraw the Bank's Notes in the Straits Settlements, but
I regret to say that he is finding great difficulty in carrying out our
wishes.
We were advised some months ago that the Governor of Singapore in his
speech stated that the then Government Note Circulation would have been
considerably exceeded had the supply of Notes from England been more
punctual. Notes of small denomination are the most popular, and it was of
these the Public could not get a sufficient quantity.
If the government are now in a position to supply the demand for all denominations we hope that our Notes may come back to us more quickly for.
oancellation Evary note presented being withdrawn from circulation.
