Reco Red 9 MAR 00:
Local Auditor, Hong Kong, to the Comptroller and Auditor General.
1900.
AG 2/1900.
264
Audit Office,
Hong Kong, 23 January, 1900.
Sir: -
I have the honour to inform you that the Hon. Colon- ial Treasurer has applied for leave of absence, and has some difficulty as to arranging for the performance of his
duties.
2.
He spoke to me on the subject, and I informed him that I could not take any acting appointment without
authority from you.
3
He asked me, if authority could be obtained, if I would consent to act, to which my reply was in the affirm-
ative.
4.
He then suggested my name to the Government, saying that your consent would have to be given.
5.
H.E. the Governor did not object to the proposal
on condition that I did not act as Local Auditor during the absence of the Treasurer, and also that no extra cost to
the public was incurred.
6.
The Treasurer has now asked me to write to you on the subject, asking for your consent to the proposed arrangement, and requesting that you will be so kind as to send a telegraphic reply, for the expense of which he will
be responsible.
