Hong Kong.

28th April 1900.

Major P.W.B.Koe,

Commanding Army Service Corps.

Sir,

We, the undersigned civilian subordinates of

the Army Service Corps, beg to submit for your

favourable consideration and recommendation to His

Excellency the General Officer Commanding this our

application for an increase of pay to meet the

continued increase in rental and cost of living in the

Colony.

provisions and other necessaries of life as well as

rents have steadily advanced until they have risen to

such an extent that we now find great difficulty in

living in the degree of respectability necessitated by

our positions.

to

We would respectfully call your attention to

the general increases granted to all employees in

mercantile offices as shown in their annual reports, the increase just given to the clerical staff by the Naval Yard, and to the applications from subordinates in the Colonial Government, which are now under consideration

of a specially selected Committee.

In fact we under-

stand that many of these applicants are already in

receipt
