Sir,
We, the undersigned civilian subordinates of
the Army Service Corps, beg to submit for your
favourable consideration and recommendation to His
Excellency the General Officer Commanding this our
application for an increase of pay to meet the
continued increase in rental and cost of living in the
Colony.
Since our joining this Department, the cost of
provisions and other necessaries of life as well as
rents have steadily advanced until they have risen to
such an extent that we now find great difficulty in
living in the degree of respectability necessitated by
our positions.

We would respectfully call your attention to
the general increases granted to all employees in
mercantile offices as shown in their annual reports, the increase just given to the clerical staff by the Naval Yard, and to the applications from subordinates in the Colonial Government, which are now under consideration
of a specially selected Committee.

stand that many of these applicants are already in
receipt
