The Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury

have received from the War Office a letter of the 27th

instant, of which a copy is stated to have been forwarded to you, relative to fixing at 20% the total military

contribution payable by the Colony of Hong Kong.

Before My Lords reply to the War Office, They

request to be favoured with an expression of the views of

the Secretary of State for the Colonies on the proposal

set forth in the memorandum by the Secretary to the Colonial

Defence Committee and endorsed by the War Office.
