I am directed by the Marquess of Lansdowne to

transmit to you, for the information of the Secretary

of State for the Colonies, the accompanying copy

of a note from the American Ambassador at this Court,

calling attention to the hostile operations against

the United States of the so-called Philippine Junta

in Hongkong, and expressing the hope that some

means may be found of restricting their activity in

future. Mr. Choate has also personally spoken to

Lord Lansdowne very earnestly on the subject.

I am therefore to request that immediote en-

quiries may be made into the matter, and that His

Lordship may be informed what reply should be re-

turned to Mr. Choate's communication.
