With reference to your letter of the 23rd ultimo
relative to the question of publishing a new map of
Hongkong and the neighbouring territories I am dir-
ected by the Marquess of Salisbury to request that
you will inform Mr. Secretary Chamberlain that Her Majesty's Minister at Peking, whose opinion on the subject was asked, states that the publication of a rectification of boundary, even though in favour of
China, seems inopportune.
