Sir:-

I am directed by the Marquess of Salisbury to

transmit to you, to be laid before Mr. Secretary

Chamberlain, a translation of a note from the German

Ambassador at this Court stating that permission has

been given by the German Government to the consign-

ment by the Steam Ship "Arragona" of four cases of

pistols to Messrs. Meyer and Company of Hongkong.

Lord Salisbury will be glad if Mr. Chamberlain

will cause the Governor of Hongkong to be informed

of this communication by Count Hatzfeldt and will

instruct him to give orders for the admission of

these ams, unless he sees any objection to such a

course.
