My Lord:-
With reference to my despatch No.9 of the
22nd instant, respecting Monsieur Beauchamp's return
to Reunion after he had been on a voyage to Cochin
China to recruit native labourers for this Colony,
I have the honour to report that so far as I could
ascertain, Monsieur Reauchamp's mission has not
proved very successful.
His Excellency has indeed obtained from
Monsieur Doumey Governor General of Cochin China,
that five hundred native families should be allowed
to immigrate to Reunion, but these families will
only comprise five hundred men, five hundred women
and a maximum of two hundred children.
Monsieur Beauchamp could not tell what the
arquess of Salisbury, K.G.,
