Gentlemen,
With reference to my letter of the 30th ultimo,
and to your reply of the 5th instant, with regard to the consignment of $300,000 in ten cent pieces for Hong Kong prepared by the Birminghan Mint Co., which had been declined
on account of unsatisfactory assay, I am directed by the
Mastor of the Mint to inform you that subsequently he
thought it desirable to make a further examination of the
coin which had been struck in view of the fact that the
mode of pyxing a coinage in the Royal Mint is not on all fours with that which is adopted when a Colonial Coinago is propared at Birmingham under occasional as contrasted with continuous supervision of this Department in the former
caso.
He accordingly caused a further selection of pieces to be made from each of the remaining four hundred with bags of ten cont pieces which had not been examined, the result that of the four hundred further pieces selected,

tioned fineness:
