Sir,

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of
your letter No. 306 of the 4th of March with further refer-
once to the cost of the coinage recently executed for the
Colonial Government by the Birmingham Mint.
We have already in our letter of the 24th of
March explained that we had induced the Birmingham Mint
to agree on this occasion to a considerable reduction in
its rate of charge and I now enclose copies of our corres-
pondence with the Deputy Master of the Royal Mint with
reference to the necessity for specially controlling this
particular coinage which will show the Colonial Government
that we did everything in our power to keep down the expense
in the matter.
We have in our lotter of the 4th of March ex-
plained how the inspection charge has been arrived at.
I have &c. 20.
