5th November 1697.

In reply to your letter of the 3rd instant I have

to inform you that in deference to your views we will not

further press our objections to the full supervision by

Mr Nash of the coinage work for the Government of Hong Kong

which is about to be undertaken by the Birmingham Mint, but

the margin of profit which will be left to the Colonial

Government in connection with this particular transaction

will be so small that it will be necessary to consider

whether such coinages could not in future be executed more

advantageously by one of the Indian Mints,

We have seen Mr Nash and have informed him that

the decision in tho matter would be communicated to him by

him all such you and we should be obliged if you would give instructions as may be nocossary and direct him to refer to

you for all directions which he may require during his

supervision of the coinage.
