Sir,
Referring to our letter of the 3rd and to your
reply of the 4th instant, No 39338/1900, I have the honour
to forward a copy of a further letter from the Deputy haator
of the Royal Mint from which it will be seen that on further
examination of the 10 cent piecos mamufactured by the Bir-
mingham hint he has come to the conclusion that the bulk of
the coinage might be permitted to go forward, and it was
accordingly shipped on the 14th instant, the remaining coins
being ro-melted under the supervision of the Royal Mint.
I also onclose, for the information of the Secro-
tary of State, a copy of the correspondence referred to by
Mr Seymour relative to the supervision of Colonial coinages
manufactured by a private firm.
I beg to add that on the 14th instant we received
a telegram from the Government of Hong Kong "Stop coining
"10 cont pioces", which we at once communicated to the
Birmingham Mint who replied on the same day "Coinage nearly
"completed may we finish bars already cast"
On the 15th we wrote to the Deputy Master of the
Royal Mint informing him of the facts and asking him to
acquaint us with the actual position of the order, 1. 0.
