We have to acknowledge receipt of your letter of

the 19th instant regarding the weight of the Hong Kong coins

In reply we have to inform you shipped per S.S. "Australia".

that we always do our best to work to the standard weight, but this is a difficult matter to achieve in every case.

We would, however, point out to you that the legal tolerance for weight is two grains per dollar, which is equal to 2000 grains per $1000 and as 70 cents would only weigh 293.33 grains, you will see that we are well within the tolerance allowed by law.

We will take note of the Treasurer's letter for future consignments, and will do our best to keep the coins as near as possible standard.

We may say that all consignments have been thoroughly tested and weighed by an official of the Royal Mint, London, who expressed himself well satisfied with the quality of the coin, especially the weights.

We have &c.,
