With reference to your letters of the 8th and

22nd June I have the honour to report the further action we have taken in connection with the supply of subsidiary coin to Hong Kong during the current year.

We have given the Birmingham Mint, Limited, a further order of $1,000,000 in 10 cent pieces to be delivered

in fortnightly instalments of at least $250,000 following

the last shipment under the previous order, which makes a

total of $2,100,000 ordered from this mint.

Having regard also to the fact that it would be impossible to complete the full Indent of $5,100,000 by the date mentioned by the Government, if fortnightly instalments of $250,000 only were shipped, we enquired by telegraph

whether the Colonial Government wished the instalments to

be increased and we were informed in reply that the Indent June /00 should he completed as far as possible. I enclose copies July /00 of the telegrams.

We therefore again approached the Royal Mint with the view of ascertaining whether any portion of the coinage could be undertaken so that, jointly with the Birmingham

Mint,
