Gentlemen,

We send herewith No. 6 drawings showing a possible

modification of the upper floor plans, and a reversal of the main elevations, so that the pediment may as desired front

towards the gardens.

The advantage of this compromise is that the Public entrances are still from the public road; that the lower

colonade remains uninterrupted on that side; that the Judges

and other private entrances are from the gardens; and that the ground floor arrangements for the transaction of business with the general public are left undisturbed.

But the disposition of the various offices on the

upper floors suffers considerably. In the original plans the routes for the Judges and the Bar, the Solicitors and Witnesses and those for the public were carefully kept quite distinct.

In the modified plans these routes necessarily cross at

several points to the inconvenience and discomfort of all classes of persons having business with the Courts.

Therefore if it be still held essential that the

Judges' rooms should face the east we recommend, although not
