Sir,
With reference to your letter No. 13309/1900 of
the 4th May and previous correspondence respecting the
reversal of the new Law Courts in Hong Kong, I have the
June 00 honour to forward a copy of a report accompanied by six
drawings which we have received from the Consulting Archi- tects regarding a compromise which they have had under
consideration in order to meet the wishes of the Govern-
ment that the Judges' chambers and Law Officers' rooms
shall face east. You will see, however, that they find
that this condition cannot be introduced into the plan
without materially impairing the convenience of its arrange-
ments, and on the whole they think that if this condition
is indispensable it is preferable to entirely reverse the building as proposed by the Colony, notwithstanding the
which the architects serious objections to that course

ask that the final decision of the Government as to which
of these plans shall be adopted may be communicated to them.
2. The Government of Hong Kong have thus before them two alternative designs, neither of which is in the opinion
