Sir,
Referring to your letter dated the 8th January
1896, I have the honour to enclose the valuation of the
securities held against the note issue of the Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation as on 2nd January last. It will be observed that an excess of security is shown which has since been further increased by the rise
in prices.
The certificate of the Colonial Treasurer
dated 31st December last shews that the sum of $5,000,000
has been deposited in Hong Kong as cover for a special note issue in excess of the limit of $10,000,000.
