Referring to your letter of the 9th instant in which you ask for further information regarding the material of the staircases, do you not think that paragraph 7 of Mr Ormsby's report of the 29th November means that they are to be of teak throughout?
If you think it practicable to do so, it might assist the Government, who may not have full or recent information on such matters, and save further correspondence, if you were to indi- cate briefly the class of sanitary fitting you would suggest,
or mention one or more alternative classes from which they
might choose.
We enclose a copy of a despatch which the Secretary of State has sent to Hong Kong regarding the proposed reversal of the buildings.

On referring to paragraph 7 of Mr Ormsby's report we think it must mean as you suggest that the staircases are to be teak throughout and we will therefore work accordingly.
We will send you in the course of a few days particulars of the Sanitary fittings that we should suggest as being most suiteble.
