2nd November 1900.
Sir,
With reference to the outrage on H.M.S"Robin" at
Luklao, I have the honour to enquire whether you can bring
the "Robin" to Canton to convey Mr Vice Consul Twyman to
Luklao for the purpose of representing this Consulate
when the Chinese Officials stationed at Luklao with the
gentry and notables of that place wait upon you on board
your ship to make a formal apology for the insult offered,
and if so on what day next week it will be possible for
you to do so for the purpose ? About the middle of the week
would be convenient as it would allow of the necessary
arrangements being made.
I would suggest that you make a reply by
telepraph.
eut.& Commander
Godfrey Webster .N.
H. M. S. "Robin",
SAMSHUI.
I have, etc.

H. M. Consul General.
