Sir,

I have the honour to bring to the :

attention of His Excellency: the Governor the following

facts regarding the work at the Magistracy,

I find that it is an absolute

impossibility for one Magistrate to get through the work.

The accompanying table shows the

number of cases which came before the Court: last week.

All these must be disposed of before the adjournment for

tiffin, as there is always fixed for the afternoon defen-

ded cases, or a case which I am required by law to commit

for trial. There is always a large number of these, and I

have now fixtures for every afternoon for the next ten

days.

↑ I arrive at the Magistracy at

30 a.m. every morning. From 8:30 8.8. to 9 a.m.. I dis-

pose of Departmental work, Reports to the Coroner etc,at

9 a.m. sharp I take the Police cases and summonses up to

the tiffin hour. In the afternoon I take the defended

cases referred to above.

Hitherto I have been able by

working late to grapple with the work, but the work has

increased so much lately that I find that I have had to

adjourn the daily cases to the following day.

The

J. H. STEWART LOCKHART, G.M.G.,

COLONIAL SECRETARY.,
