In conclusion I have to state that the

majority of the Prison Warders hitherto obtained from home, have been selected from the Irish Prisons probably on account

of the pay being smaller in that service than in Scotland

and England, and the majority of the candidates having volun-

teered from Ireland.

With one exception the Irish Warders have

not been a success, and would strongly recommend that in

the present case the candidates be selected from Scotland

and England.

If the new rates of pay are adopted they

will I think attract men fromthose countries.
