I have the honour to inform you that a
rebellious movement has broken out in the Evei Shin dis-
the
: trick of the Evang Ting province, north of Mirs Bay,
result of which has yet to be seen.
2. On the 5th. insient a body of
rebels attacked a force of Chinese troops in the village : of Sha Wan whom ther defeated, killing it is reported
S men. The rebela are reported to be armed with modern rifles, They, did not. plunder, but levied blackmail,seized
arms, and endeavoured to enlist the people. They retired
: to Tam Sul from Sha Wan, leaving untouched the village Of LA LOGE,where the Basel Mission has a shetion, and which is but a few miles west of Sha Wan.
3. I communicated with Her Majesty's GonaulTM General að Canton who informed me that troops would be sent to Saz Chus close to our territory. On the
