ment of his duties. The grounds of complaint were stated in
the presence of Mr.Bagg and the Acting Principal Civil Medical Officer, and Mr. Bagg was given the opportunity to make any statements on the matter which he desired. He acknowledged
that he had voluntarily written the letter of the 25th. August in which he said that he was willing to accept his appoint- ment as Wardmaster on the altered conditions named therein, and he acknowledged that he had afterwards, in contravention of the terms of his written undertaking, declined to perform certain duties enjoined upon him by the Acting Principal Civil Medical Officer. Upon the withdrawal of Dr. Bell and Mr. Bagg, the Attorney General repeated his advice, already given in writing, that Mr. Bagg was obliged by the terms of his appoint- ment by the Governor to perform the duties imposed upon him and that by refusing to perform them he rendered himself liable for dismissal. The Council unanimously advised that Mr. Bagg be suspended from the exercise of his duties with a view to his dismissal from the service, and that the papers be refer red to the Colonial Treasurer and Attorney General to consider as to whether Mr.Bagg was liable to refund the cost of his passage to the Colony.
