I have examined the accompanying Ordinance, entitled
Au Ordinance to amend the Law
with
espect to the Surisdiction exerciseable
in cases relating to the Receipt or Possession of Stolen Property.
and I am of opinion that the Ordinance is one which is not contrary to the
Governor's Instructions.
This Ordinance renders the law of Hongkong similar to that of England. The defect which the Ordinance is intended to make good, existed also in English Law till August, 1896, when the Imperial Act, 59 & 60 Viet, eap. 52, with which this Ordinance is substantially identical in terms, was passed to apply a remedy,
