As the surgeons in the Medical Department
and Sanitary Board not provided with official quarters,t
but
drawing an allowance for same, we have the honour to apply
for an increase of this allowance.
Sixty dollars per mensem have been allow-
ed hitherto, but house rents have gone up from 50 to 100% dur-
ing the last few years since the above allowance was fixed
(1895), and a suitable house at $60 per mensem cannot now pos-
sibly be got. Under these circumstances we bag respectfully
ask that this allowance be raised to $90 per mensem.
