With reference to your despatch No.273
of the 14th.November 1895, I have the honour to enclose a copy
of a letter I have received from the members of the Committee
recently appointed to enquire into the salaries of subordin-
ate officers in the service of this Colony.

I attach a copy of a report by the Colon-
ial Treasurer & Local Auditor upon the same subject,& also a
Memorandum supplied by the Acting Treasurer of the Straits
hel. 3. 104 tor: 1900. Cal. Ht. 4th T.1900.
Settlements, with a minute by the Colonial Treasurer thereon.
I am of opinion that a system such as that
outlined in these documents would be suitable for adoption in
this Colony, & I have the honour to forward it therefore for
your consideration and decision.
