Your letter of the 21st. ultimo and the previous correspondence with reference to the Albany Nullah have recived the careful consideration of the Commodore and the conclusion he has arrived at is, that unless the Colonial Government will withdraw its op- position to the proposed diversion of the Nullah, it is necessary that the differences which have arisen with re-
gard to such diversion should be fully reported to the
Admiralty.
So long as the Commodore and your Gov-
ernment are unable to agree upon the matter (and there
seems little prospect of such agreement if the Colonial
Government persists in exacting terms to which the Commo-
dore is unable to consent) the carrying out of the plans
for the improvement of, and addition to, the Naval Dock-
yard, must necessarily be delayed. These plans which show
the proposed diversion of the Nullah were received here
several months ago after having been approved of by the
Admiralty, by whom the matter is considered to be settled.
That it should have been so considered unless both the Co-
lonial Severnment and Military Authorities at home had
been consulted with reference to the proposed diversion
of the Nullah, is highly improbable. Such diversion is absolutely necessary for the carrying out of the work, which has already been commenced with the full knowledge of, and, until your letter of the 9th. inst., was receiv- ed, without any objection thereto being raised by, the Co- lonial Government. In fact, I may say, having regard to the correspondence which passed between the Director of
Public
