REGD 26 OUT 00M.S."Tamar"

HongKong, 16th. August, 1900.

I am desired by the Commodore to

acknowledge the receipt of your letter No.1431 of the

9th.instant, relative to the diversion of the Albany Nul-

lah and in reply to state that the Nullah which carries

off the rain and other water from the hillside together

with whatever soil and débris the Colonial authorities

think fit to allow to find their way into it, mist dis-

charge into the see somewhere, but because in the latter

part of its course it happens to pass through Admiralty

property, the Commodore fails to see how, from any con

sideration of equity or reason, the Naval Authorities

should be called upon to remove the silt or sail that

collects at its mouth.

He therefore cannot agree to the

condition named in your letter.

I have etc.,

Colonial Secretary.

HongKong.

(sd) F.G.Motton,

Secy. to the Commodore.
