The
Board propose
if these rates receive
approval-to decrease the number of 2nd.Class inspectors by
one and to create a special class of three Senior Inspec-
tors at $1800 rising to $ 2040 per annum, to be engaged in
England, and to be filled by Candidates possessing certifi-
cates of the Sanitary Institute or of the Sanitary Inspec-
tors Examination Board, and having had 2 years experience
as Inspectors of Nuisances in & British urben Sanitary
District.
Such an errangement would re-
sult in a small economy, for there would only be required 3
house allowances (at $360 a year each) instead of 4.
4. There are at present 4 vacancies
for Inspectors of Nuisances of the Ist.Class, and the Medi-
cal Officer of dealth reports that there is only one In-
spector of the 2nd.class whom he can recommend for promo-
tion.
In these circumstances I consider the
proposel a good one, and am prepared to recommend it in due
course for your favourable consideration.
If it is adopted and properly treined
candidates can be obtained in England for the salary men-
tioned the Board will possess such a strong subordinate
staff that it is quite possible it may find that the appoint-
ment of an Assistant Medical Officer of Health is not after
all really necessary.
I have the honour to be,
sir,
Your most obedient, Humble servant,
stung Wel
GOVERNOR, &C.
