NOTE.

Something may be saved from the

expenditure under each Estimate by having the copies all bound in cloth and by using paper such as the Ordinances

are now printed on. But it would seem desirable to have a few copies well bound for the Colonial Office, the Governor, the members of the Executive and Legislative Councils, &C., and it also seams desirable that the copies for the use of public departments and officers should be bound in some

more durable material than cloth. It may be mentioned that

skiver is a kind of inferior calf. As to the paper I would

strongly recommend that a good quality be used. I have not

sufficient knowledge of the matter to be able to say whe-

ther the allowance asked for on this head by the Govern-

ment Printers is reasonable.

I understand that the estimate as to

the cost of printing is based on the rates fixed in the contract with the Government Printers, and, especially with

the reductions proposed, it seems reasonable. I have not pressed the printers on the point of possible further

reductions.
