between the Colonial and Militery

Authorities, and a Committee composed of the Acting Colon-

iel Secretary and Director of Public Works on the one

hand, andthe Officer Commanding the Royal Engineers, and

Major Prendergast Royal Engineers, on the other, "as RCTM

cordingly appointed.

5. I now forward their report, }

the recommenriationscontained in which meet with the so-

proval of both the general Officer Commanding and myself.

The tracings attached to the re-

part sufficiently explain the exchanges proposed, and the enclosed copies of the letters referred to from Major

General Gascoigne show the conditions attaching to the

transfer of the Dock Battery.

The Military Authorities are sat-

isfied "ith the advantages they gain, while the Colonial Goverment obtains the valuable land comprised in the

Dock Battery, the pranium and enhanced crown rent for

the Garden lots for which Inland lots can now be issued,

and rates on prospective buildings to be erected thereon,

besides the plot of land in front of the Water Police

Station.

6. The plot marked in tracing No.

4 "Colonial Secretary's Office 120/ 99 " is a piece of stampy ground containing 11 acres "hich I propose to convert into s Public Recreation Ground, the need for

which is much felt at Korloon.

This can be done at comparative-

ly small expense, a vote for which will be submitted with

the Estimates, and the draining of the ground should impre-

ve the health of the Barracks in the vicinity.
