I have the honour to strongly recom- mend to ills Excellency's favourable notice the case of Mr. Fung Yuk Kau, Clerk and Interpreter in this De- partment. This Officer was appointed to his present post on May 15th.,1808 at a salary of $600 a year rising by triennial increments of $60 to $720.All Chinese Clerks in Government employ with salaries below $50 a month have recently received substantial increases, while this Officer whose pay is exactly $50 remains at his pre- vious salary, which is now appreciably smaller than that of several officers formerly drawing less.
He
is a most excellent and deserving officer, and his case seems a hard one. accordingly venture bo strongly recommend that he be allowed to draw his first incre- ment of $5 a month for the current year, and that next year his pay be raised to the maximum viz:- $60 a
month.
