The Municipal Council lately asked

that my period of service in Shanghai be extended for

a year, but the Irish Government were unable to accede

to the request.

376

Under these circumstances I have to

return home about the end of this year.

Being anxious for various reasons

to obtain a Colonial appointment, I venture to put this application before Your Excellency with a hope that you may find it in your power to transmit to the Colonial Office together with an endorsement of your recommenda-

tion.

I beg also to refer to Sir Andrew

Reed K.0.B.Inspector General, Royal Irish Constabulary.

In the event, particularly, of the

disturbances at present existing in South Africa and China necessitating the organization of any considerable Police Force at the conclusion of hostilities in either country, I trust my service and experience in both may

be considered.

I may add that I am 43 years of age,

married, with three children.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your Excellency's obedient and humble servant.

Piens 17 Sarrion

Captain Superintendent Shanghai Municipal Police.
