parents. Their aim in China is to murder the Emperor &
to foreigners they behave like savages. They insult
other Nations & ruin the Empire,
All over China we reformers wring our hands
tremble with anger & view with rage the tyrants
sharpening their weapons. All are anxious to destroy
the Boxers, rescue the Emperor & protect Westerners, We all understand about Foreign Nations & respect their civilization. Further we wish to immitate their ways
& particularly to enter into close relations
with them.
We all know your country's desire to give support
to China. We are cordially attached to her & hope
that she will help us & join with the other nations
in saving the Emperor. If we reformers are given
authority we can without fail extirpate the Boxers
& protect foreigners & mission stations. We will
introduce Western laws & methods & select & employ able foreigners. The Emperor is much attached to your
country & so are we reformers, & we hope that you
will telegraph to your Government & urge it to quickly take advantage of this opportunity to protect the Emperor & restore him to power & assist the reform
party. All countries will live in peace & concord &
your nation will receive great merit. This will be
known to all Chinese who will be filled with gratitude,
The closer the friendly relations between us the
more anxious will the Chinese be to requite your
kindness & the greater benifit will your nation
derive from it.
