I have the honour to transmit for your
favourable consideration the enclosed copy of an application
from Mr.J.C.Wong, Clerk in the Land Office, for an increase of
salary.

The facts stated in Mr.Wong's letter are
correct, and his present application is very strongly support-
ed by the Deputy Land Officer, under whose immediate supervi-
sion Mr.Wong has served for nearly 19 years.
As Mr.Wong's salary ( 720 per annum) is
over 50 a month he did not benefit from the general increase
in the salaries of the Chinese employees of Government sanction-
ed in your despatch No.48 of 1900.
I now recommend that in view of the res-
ponsible and important nature of this officer's work and his
long period of good service, his personal allowance of $ 360
per annum should be raised to 480, and that the increase
