4. That those are of a temporary nature only, and are intended for the exclusive use of members of those forcedres- pectively, and are not accessible to the other sections of the

· Community.

5. That the Hindoos and Sikhs in the Colony at present number about 500 and are increasing daily.

6. That taking the strength of the Artillery and Police Sikhs as nearly 280, there are as many as 40% or more of the whole Community who are not only unable to find any public place for worshipping on their Festivals and Holy Days, but are even without a place where to offer their daily prayers.

7. That your petitioners are informed that the

Government makes free grants of land to all Sects in need of

building thereupon places of worship.

That such a free grant was made by the Government to the Mahomedan Community of the Colony for building thereupon their Mosque in the Town.

9. That your petitioners pray most humbly and respect fully that this privilege may also be bestowed on the Hindoo

and Sikh Community of the Colony.

10. That your petitioners also beg to state that each member has agreed to pay towards the erection of such a building a minimum of one month's pay or net earnings.

11. That a representative Committee has been already formed and that the work or collecting subscriptions is pro- gressing most satisfactory, 50% of the promised sums having been already subscribed and collected.
