Government douse,

Hongkong, 19th June, 1999.

Sir,

losure! May, 1900:

I have the honour to transait for your

favourable consideration the enclosed copy of a Petition from

representatives of the Sikhs and dindoos in public and private

engloy in the Colony praying for the free grant to then of a piece

of ground on which to erect a public place of Worshio.

There is in dongkong a Siah Battery of Royal

Artillery, while half of the Indian Police are of the same religion,

and there are a large number of Sikhs and dindoos ia private employ-

ment, and the lastitution of a public place of worship for then is a

nost nesirable object.

It has been found that the requirements for a

site are somewhat less than stated in the Petition, and that an area

of 12,000 square feet will probably be enough, but as a plan of the

building has not yet been received it is not possible to fix the

area precisely.
