No.85
Enclosure.
Sir,
21002
Piece 9 B
Sanitary Board Office,
440
11th. May, 1900.
I have the honour to forward the accompanying letter from the Assistant Sanitary Surveyor Mr.Joseph James Bryan,
with reference to the expiration of his agreement with the
Government, and to report that at a meeting held yesterday the
Board unanimously agreed to recommend that Ir.Bryan be appointed
Sanitary Surveyor to the Board under Section 9 of the Public
Health Ordinance, and that he be placed on the same footing as
regards pay as the Assistant Engineers of the Public Works
Department who receive $2,400 rising to $3,000 per annum, and
that Mr.Bryan should be entitled to draw his first increment,
upon the completion of his three years service in August next,
as he has drawn $2,400 per annum since his appointment.
I as further to add that the Board desire that the
officer of the Public Works Department who is in charge of
the sewers should remain as a Surveyor to the Board the
Public Health Ordinance provides for the appointment of more
than one such officer but that his duties should be purely
consulting; this officer receives no pay from the Sanitary
Department, he being an Executive Engineer of the Public Works
Department.
