Sir,

By the 31st December next, I shall have been 18

years and 1 months in the Service and years in my present

appointment as 5th. Clerk in this Department, and I beg rea-

pectfully to request that you will be pleased to recommend

that my salary may be increased from 870 to $80 a month from

next year.

In support of my application I beg to submit the

following facts:-

(1). That my post was formerly styled 4th Clark

(2). That the maximum of salary attaches to the post as

recommended by the Retrenchment Committee of 1894 was $1,000

per annum or $83.33 per month.

(3). That in consequence of the above named recommenda-

tion Mr.Silva my predecessor drew a fixed salary of $80 a.

month, though for some time between 1894 and 1896 he enjoyed

an average of $105 a month including extra pay.

(4). That my work is different from copying work it

requires attention, care and energy. I beg to attach a list

of my duties of which I respectfully solicit kind perusal.

As my work is daily increasing and the cost of

living is dear, I beg that you will kindly recommend this my

application
