In view of the approaching period for the prepara- tion of the Estimates for the next year, I bag most respectfully
to request that you will be good enough to recommend this my application to His Excellency The Officer Administering the
Government for an increase to my present salary.
I beg to state that I have served the Government
for 2 years, having been 3rd. Chinese Assistant Master in
the Government Central School for 5 years, and having filled
the posts of Notice server, the 6th; the 5th and 4th Clerk
successively in this Department for 17 years.
Since I was promoted to be the 4th Clerk in January,
1898, I have only drawn $70 a month, the same salary as I
received, when I was 5th Clerk, instead of $80 a month, the
amount of fixed salary attached to the post of 4th Clerk pre-
viously, although the work in connection with my duties has
owing increased to a great extent partly to the ammual increase in
A the number of buildings in the city, and partly owing to the
recent frequent changes of house ownerships.
I beg to annex a statement of the duties I now dis
charge as 4th Clerk from which it will be seen that my duties
are multifarious and are of an important and responsiblə mature
that great care and precision have to be exercised in their
上
(and
execution.
Honourable
4. M. Thomson,
Colonial Treasurer,
