analogous to that of the principal executive engineer in the

Public Works Department, and, I think, were all the other

conditions of the two appointments equal, they ought to be

classed together in the matter of salary.

But the position of principal executive

engineer is a permanent one, while my position is temporary

or uncertain, and > to me, very unsatisfactory.

It seems to me that my position ought

either to be declared to be such as not to entitle me to any

retiring allowance, and, if it is declared to be so, the salary

attached to the position should be higher than that of the

principal executive engineer in the Public Works Department,

or it ought to be declared to be such as to entitle me to a

retiring allowance, and, if it is declared to be so, the salary

attached to the position should be equal to that of the prin....

cipal executive engineer in the Public Works Department.
