I have the honour to make the following

short report on the working up to the present time of the

· Protection of Women and Girls Amendment Ordinance No.31 of

Early in November last che Captain Su-

perintendent of Police was authorised to take steps to

· procure with the assistance of Inspector Lee of che Registrar General's Department and the co-operation of the Registrar General, the closing of practically all the brothels which

: had established themselves in the central part of the city

in he respectable business and residential quarters where they have been the source of much annoyance for a number of

years.

3. The Work of clearing the central part

of the City has now been completed and 183 brothels have :been removed while no less than 295 brochels, rather than

remove,have closed and the large majority of the inmates have left the Colony.

By the closing of these brothels 335 floors were set free of which 314 were found at the end of last month to be in occupation of respectable people while 18 were occupied by kept women or women of doubtful character and s were to lep.

No more suriking evidence could be had of
