Sir,
ENCLOSURE.
NO. 4

Rer 19 JUN 00
Public Works Office,
Hongitong; 25th. April, 1900.
I have the honour to inform you that it is now no-
cessary that a Supplementary Vote be obtained in order to
provide for various services in connection with the New
Territory.
I may point out that, except for certain specific works appearing under the heading "Public Works Extraordinary",
page 49 of the Estimates, no provision whatever was made in
this year's Estimates for the additional expenditure of this
Department which must necessarily follow in connection with
such a large extension of territory.
Hitherto this axpenditure has been defrayed from the
Re-vote taken for the New Territory Works (Finance Minute Fo.3),
but this has now become exhausted.
It is impossible to estimate with any reliable ac-
curacy what amount will be required for the remainder of the
year, but, so far as I can foresee, it will be approximately
as follows: -
Balance of expenditure on Tai Po Police
Station,
say
Wages of caretakers employed at old Customs Station, Temporary Draftsman,
500
1815
As Honourable
&c. months 9 at $155
The Acting Colonial Secretary
