Wongneichong Recreation Ground, and he reminded the Council that it was upon the understanding, that those works would
· be undertaken in the course of the year that the Unofficial
· Members of Council had passed the Estimates for 1900.Mr.Cha-
ter also reiterated the belief of the Unofficial Members
that the staff of the Public Works Department should be large- ly reinforced, to allow of these works being adequately and simultaneously carried on.
In the course of discussion it was pointed out
by the Director of Public Works that certain of the specified .works, such as the waterworks,the Law: Courts, and the chair
shelter at the Peak, were being pressed forward as speedily
as possible, and that though certain of the Public Works De-
partment staff. had recently resigned, new officers were about to leave England or were already on their way.
The Colonial Treasurer stated that Mr.Chater" s
recollection of the understanding arrived at at the meeting
Mr.Chater referred to was, correct.
In view of such understanding it was advised
that Financial Minutes be prepared to be laid before the
Legislative Council for the funds that would be required
during the year, in order that a commencement might be made
of the following works←-
1. Road from Upper: Tram Station to High West.
2. Completion of the improvements of the Wongnei-
chong Recreation Ground.
3. Building of No.7, Police Station.
The total vote required would be about $30,000.
