A vote for the Chair Shelter at the Peak
had already been taken early in the year.
3. The need for a shelter at the Peak for
the chairs and their bearers, in daily and nightly attendance at the terminus of the tramway has long been urged upon the Government both in and out of the Legislative Council.
A road from the Victoria Gap to High West
.will open out new building sites and will lead to the sale of
- Crown Land which will render the work remunerative.
The completion of the improvements at
mo
the Recreation round in the nappy Valley is part of the
scheme begun in 1895, and with an increased garrison and fleet
and an increasing population the further accomdation for health-
ful recreation which will be provided by completing the scheme
and thereby enlarging the space at present available for the
purpose, cannot but be regarded as an urgent necessity.
A new No.7 Police Station appears among
the projected Public Works Extraordinary in the Estimates for
the year 1896,and as far back as 1894 the present station was
reported upon by the late Dr.Ayres, in consequence of a re-
commendation by the Captain Superintendent of Police that the
: Station should be replaced by a new one, and pronounced to be
lacking in accommodation and generally in an insanitary condi-
tion. I enclose copy of the report. The $12,000 voted in the
Estimates for the year is being expended on the Branch Station
at Kennedy Town.
