Again this year the City is short of water, it being only pos-
sible to turn on the supply for 3 hours a day a serious matter
with plague increasing. The three additional reservoir/in the
Pytam Valley proposed by Mr.Cooper in his report in 1896
should be taken in hand as soon as possible, the Colony will
be subject to these armal water famines until all these re-
servoirs are completed, and I cannot see my way to prepare
for, or commence the works without another officer. Tytam
lies 5 or 6 miles from the City in the Hills and to ensure
satisfactory progress with the work an officer should reside
on the spot.
I therefore beg strongly to urge the appointment of
another officer, who should be an unmarried man, and specially
selected for this particular branch of work by Ir.Chadwick.
