Mr. Ladds was appointed in 1887 on a salary
of $8,400 per anmm, and the question of free quarters being
left for consideration locally by Sir Henry Holland's
despatch No.117 of the 12th. of July 1887, he was on
arrival in the Colony granted in lieu of free quarters
an increase to his salary of €600 by two triemial intre-
ments of $300 each.
In paragraph No.50 of Sir William Robinson's
despatch No.201of the 4th. September 1894, he was recoD-
mended for an increase to his salary of $600 to be re-
garded as including remuneration for his work in connection with the Vaccine Institute, and this recommendation was
approved in the Marquess of Spor's despatch No.32 of
the 8th. of February 1895.
The question of his clain to extre remu—
neration on account of his work in connection with the
Vaccine Institute had previously formed the subject of
the
