for that grade in your despatch No.280 of the 8th.of
December 1899, and that in view of the fact that he has
been drawing salary at the rate of $3,000 since 1st. of
Jamu ry 1898, under authority of your despatch No.131 of
20th. May 1898, he may be permitted to be regarded as
haring earned his first, increment attaching to his new
post on 1st. January,' 1901 -
The Assistant Engineers in the Department would,
if this prondtion were made and consequent on the fact
that the Chief Draughtsman har been appointed an Assistant
Engineer and his former post abolished,be Messrs.Gale,
Hollingsworth, the successor to Mr.Gibbs, Mr. Hughes and
Mr.Xavier. The appointment of the latter was recommender
in my despatch No.174 of the 26th. April, 1900.
