With reference to my despach No.176 of the 27th. ultimo in which I informed you that Principal Warder Pederson of Victoria Gaol had been discharged from the service on pension, I have now the honour to inform you that, subject to your confirmation I have appointed Warder Ahern to be Principal Warder in hir place on a salary of $960 per annum rising by annual increments of $48 for 5 years.
Mr.Ahern left Hongkong on six months' leave on the Ist. instant, and should you approve of his appoint- ment I shall be obliged if you will instruct the Crown Agents to pay him at the increased rate of salary as from the 1st. instant.
