With reference to my letter No. 425 of the
17th. instant, I am directed to forward to you a copy of a list
of farther piracies and other incidents on the West River, which
has been supplied by His Excellency the Vice-Admiral Sir Edward
Seymour, who has just returned from a visit to the West River
as far as Wuchow, and to request you to be so good as to bring
these additional cases before the notice of the Viceroy.
I am to add that the Governor will feel
obliged if the Viceroy will inform him what steps have been taken
to punish the pirates who fired upon the men of Ber Majesty's
Ship "Tweed" when assisting the Chinese Authorities to recover a
pirated Chinese launch, as reported to you in my letter No. 215, of
the 9th. ultimo.
